Bishop Ireton’s boys and girls track & field teams competed in the Virginia Catholic State championships at St John Paul the Great Saturday. The girls earned a 4th place finish with three champions while the boys were 7th. St John Paul the Great won both the boys and girls titles handily on their home track.
Isabelle Wilcox claimed both the 800 meters and 1600 meter races and teammate Laura Mueller won the 3200 meter event to pace the Cardinal girls. Senior UNC-bound lacrosse player, Charlotte Sofield, ran in the 200 meter dash, and earned a 4th place finish in her first competition.
Thomas Ward snared the bronze medal for the boys’ 3200 and Josh Ammon was a third place finisher in the 110 meter high hurdles. Brothers Sam and Drew Smith joined Will Barth and Josh Estevez for a third place in the 4×400 boys’ relay while the 4×100 relay team also earned a 4th (Sam Smith, Josh Ammon, Drew Smith, and Perris Jones).
Bishop Ireton will close the 2015 outdoor season next Friday, May 15th and Saturday, May 16th in Olney, Maryland, as Good Counsel hosts the 2015 WCAC track & field championships at Kline Stadium. Admission is $5/day.
