Coach Pete Davey’s rebuilding Bishop Ireton Cardinal Golf Team traveled to Argyle Country Club in Silver Spring to take on the Falcons of Good Counsel on Monday, March 10th for the first match of the season.
The Cardinals, after graduating five starting seniors last year, have an almost totally new lineup for the 2014 campaign. Led by senior captain Jordan Zelasko and junior standouts Dominic Wagner and Kevin Lewis, the Cardinals faced an uphill battle against the Falcons, one of the preseason favorites in the WCAC.
Although the Falcons eventually prevailed in stroke play by a 217 – 228 count, Ireton battled and kept it close until the last group came in. Lewis and Zelasko were low scorers for the Alexandria visitors. Wagner, Jake Murray, Billy Marrin, and Jude Hetrick all started for the Cardinals.
