Coach Don Dight offered congratulations to his top placers at this year’s VISAA Wrestling Championships held at Cape Henry Collegiate School in Virginia Beach.
Senior Conor Reilly was the Cardinals’ highest placer at 5th, followed by sophomores Max Russell at 7th and Devon Reed at 8th. Overall, the team had a respectable 14th place finish out of 30 teams.
Dight was mindful of the work of his numerous young grapplers, many who were in their first year of wrestling, “Thanks to all of the men for their hard work and dedication to the team this season. Considering the number of first year wrestlers in the starting line up, finishing the season with a winning record is a testament to the commitment of the men, and support of their families.” The Cardinals ended the dual meet campaign with an encouraging 12-10 mark, including a narrow win over rival Bishop O’Connell in Godley Gym.
Bishop Ireton’s annual end of season wrestling banquet will be held on Sunday, March 9th. “Exact time, cost and menu will be forthcoming, for now please save the date on your calendars. This is an opportunity to recognize the efforts of the men, and to send our seniors off in style. At that point I will also have information about off season workouts and summer camp” commented the Ireton skipper.
