The Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association announced its 12 team state tournament pairings Sunday with the 7th seeded Cardinals hosting city rival, Episcopal, in the first round action. The winner advances to play #2 Flint Hill on Wednesday. Bishop Ireton announced Monday the opening game with the Maroon will be a 6pm tipoff in Fr Godley Gymnasium. Additionally, the School reminded fans that no season passes or free tickets for students are available for this state playoff contest, admission is $5 at the door.
“I am thrilled for the team and Coach Campbell that the state selection committee recognized the potential of our girls.” said athletic director Bill Simmons. “It would be easy to look strictly at our record and dismiss us as not competitive. To that end, PVI’s Scott Allen, the northern region representative, has done a stellar job representing the region and our three WCAC members. This seeding shows the respect the state has for the WCAC and our program. I hope we get a strong turnout, Ireton supports its teams and that message is a good one to send to Richmond as well.”
Paul VI enters the tournament a top seed, while Bishop O’Connell drew a #4 seed. The tournament format has games Tuesday, Wednesday at the higher seeded schools, then a trip to Richmond to play the semifinals and finals on Friday and Saturday at the Abbey of Benedictine.
