The Men’s Varsity Tennis team shoveled off their courts and opened the season with two WCAC opponents last week. Playing at home on Tuesday, the Cardinals dropped their season opener to Good Counsel, 9-0. Matthew Pham and Alex Celis braved the windy elements and played well.
On Thursday, the Cardinals dropped a 9-0 decision to 5-time defending champion Gonzaga at East Potomac Tennis Center. Sophomore Peter Murphy was a standout at #6 singles, dropping a close match 8-6 to his Purple Eagle opponent.
The Cardinals will lean on seniors Matthew Pham, Alex Celis, Thomas Shoemaker, and Dylan Louison to lead an improving group of underclassmen as the season goes forward.
Next up for the varsity tennis team is a short trip across town to play Episcopal on Tuesday, March 24, one of three matches this week.
