Cardinals’ Dominic Wagner started 2015 spring off with a one stroke victory in IJGT at Laurel Hill March 15th.
The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) traveled to Laurel Hill Golf Club to host the IJGT Battle at Laurel Hill on March 14-15, 2015. The competitors played through rainy conditions in round one and had to navigate 20 mph winds, with gusts up to 40 mph, in round two. Despite challenging conditions, the juniors performed admirably while competing for IJGT Merit Points and national rankings during the two-day, 36-hole event.
The birdie on hole No. 18 was Wagner’s second of the tournament; his first came on the par-4 sixth hole in round one. He knocked one stroke off his round one score of 79 to card a 78 in round two, good for a tournament total of 157 and his first IJGT victory. Wagner’s 78 in round two earned him the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award, the award presented to the male junior to card the lowest score in the final round of the event.
Wagner, a senior at Bishop Ireton and co-captain of the golf team, is an honor roll student, posting a 4.03 GPA last semester.
