St Johns scores early, bounces Cardinals in WCAC baseball

Senior Kyle Delaney took the loss for the Cardinals. The senior will join 8 teammates for their final home game versus Good Counsel Monday.

The Bishop Ireton Cardinals  fell 12-0 to St. John’s at Frank Mann Field on Thursday.

The Cadets’ Brodie Leftridge got it done on the mound on the way to a win.  He pitched five shutout innings,  struck out seven, walked none and gave up one hit.

St. John’s was sparked by Jake Bernstein and Adrian Peralta, who teamed up for four hits and two RBIs.

Kyle Delaney took the loss for the Cardinals . He allowed eight runs in six innings, walked none and struck out three.

The game quickly went to St. John’s thanks to a first inning rally that saw three runs cross the plate on an error, a solo home run by Peralta, and a groundout by AJ Lee.

St. John’s increased its lead with three runs in the fifth. A error scored Bernstein to start the scoring in the inning. That was followed up by Peralta’s single, plating Leftwich.

Bishop Ireton (4-11, 3-10) head into the final week of the regular season traveling to DeMatha on Saturday, home Monday for senior night with Good Counsel before heading to the season finale at St. Mary’s Ryken on April 30th.
