Charlotte Sofield with 4 goals and two assists and Kelly Mathews with a pair of goals and four helpers led Bishop Ireton to its second WCAC win, 19-5, of the weather-plagued start to the 2014 season over the visiting Knights of St. Mary’s Ryken.
Ireton (2-0, 2-0) got shutout goaltending from Florida-bound Olivia Cole for nearly 35 minutes as they raced to a 12-0 halftime advantage and a 17-0 bulge before the visiting Knights finally solved the senior net minder.
Kendall Cunningham and Kelly Larkin added four goals for the Cardinals Friday and each contributed an assist in the contest. Freshman Kayla Duperouzel led the Cardinals in the all important draw controls dominating the majority of the 26 face off opportunities.
The Cardinals make the first road trip Saturday when they head to Maryland to challenge Archbishop Spalding of Severn in a 4pm start. The junior varsity will also play at 4pm on an adjoining field. The young Cardinals whitewashed Ryken in the nightcap, 12-0 Friday.
