Senior Heather Pearson (23) and sophomore Heather Russell scored 9 points in the Cardinals setback to PVI Tuesday.

Bishop Ireton’s juniors Alex Stipano and Cecilia Leone scored 11 points, but it was not enough as the Cardinals fell to Paul VI 85-52 Tuesday in Alexandria.

The visiting Panthers broke to a 20-9 first period advantage and led 43-21 at intermission.  Paul VI cemented their lead in the third quarter, scoring 29 points and cruised to the win.

Putting up seven points in the first period, Leone wasted no time putting points on the board for the  Cardinals.

Paul VI had nine players score including four in double figures, led by Kendall Hunter’s 15. The victory pushed the visiting Panthers to 10-1 in WCAC play while the Cardinals suffered their eleventh setback in league play.

Also chipping in for the Lady Cardinals were Paige Russell (9 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal), Heather Pearson (9 points, 2 rebounds), Michele Montgomery (6 points, 1 rebound), Kelly Gallagher (2 points), Keyarna Frederick (2 points, 3 rebounds), Shannon Corridon (2 points, 1 rebound) and Isabelle Kendall (2 points).

The Lady Cardinals finished the game with 38 rebounds (13 offensive/25 defensive) and one steal.

Next up for Bishop Ireton is a trip to Bladensburg where they will tangle with another ranked team in Elizabeth Seton on Thursday. Tipoff is slated for 7pm for the varsity contest.
