Bishop Ireton’s swim and dive team made a splash at the Freedom Center Saturday as they swept the men’s and women’s team titles in the northern region of Catholic Schools in Virginia. Bishop O’Connell was a distant second on the men’s side while the Cardinals edged the Knights on the women’s side. For the gals, it was a successful defense of their championship won in 2013, while the men overcame a second place finish to O’Connell a year ago to win the 2014 event going away.
The wins marked the second team championships of the week for the Cardinals, who swept the Alexandria City championships for the 8th straight time under head coach John Gullickson.
