Cardinals finish 6th with short lineup in 2013 SSSAS Holiday Classic Saturday.
Poly Prep of Brooklyn dethroned the defending champion Cardinals as the 2013 St. Stephens Holiday wrestling tournament Saturday. Ireton finished 6th in the 11-team field.
With Bishop Ireton taking only 10 wrestlers, the Cardinals placed four in the medal round. Chris Macey at 126 took home a 4th place, while 106 pounder Max Russell won third.
The highest placers of the day were Joey Siedlarz (160) and Trey Lovisone (220), both finalists. Highlights of the day included Tom Shoemaker (195) getting his first varsity match, Andre Roberts (170) and Gavin Webster (285) hitting big play moves to come back and pin their opponents after trailing and Trey’s gutty OT loss to the recent NOVA champ from Madison HS.
The Cardinals will return to action on Saturday, January 4th with they travel to King George High School to wrestle in the Nick Mason Memorial Wrestling Tournament.
