Ireton outlasts Briar Woods in Bulldog Bash opener, 46-31

Bishop Ireton’s tourney opener with Loudoun County’s Briar Woods was a defensive battle in a game free of shot clock restrictions. Whether that is a positive for high school basketball is debatable but certainly an adjustment for the WCAC ball club.

The Cardinals built a 22-10 lead at halftime and cruised home for the 15-point win.

Senior Jamie Senff, held to 4 points in the Cardinals’ win in White Plains, NY over Archbishop Stepanic, responded with a game-high 14 points for Ireton. Ty Quarles added 13 including a three-point goal, Dan Noe chipped in 9 with a three, and Patrick Moseh had 4.

Curry had 10 for Briar Woods, who were held 13 field goals in the game and allowed only six opportunities from the free throw line compared to 14 for Ireton.

Bishop Ireton (6-2) faces the Robinson Rams in the tourney’s semi-final contest.  Tipoff is 4pm Saturday at Westfield High School.
