Bishop Ireton sent a program record three boats to the semifinals of the Stotesbury Regatta, held this past weekend on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, PA. This is the largest junior rowing event in the country with as many as eighty boats competing in a single event.
The girls freshman 8, the women’s senior 8, and the men’s senior 8 all advanced through the time trials and into the match race format of the semifinals. The woman’s junior eight missed by 0.39 seconds to be the fourth Bishop Ireton boat moving ahead.
The girls’ freshman 8, the current Washington Metropolitan Interscholastic Rowing Association (WMIRA) freshman champions, represented the first freshman boat from BI to advance, the seeds for continuing success for our women’s program.
The season will be ending for the rowing program and the men’s senior eight, a women’s varsity 4 and the freshman eight compete next weekend at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) national championships on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, NJ.
