Tuesday Ireton’s men’s tennis team hosted T.C. Williams for the Cardinals’ Senior Day.
The Cambridge Road gang started off 2-1 after playing doubles, with all three of Ireton’s seniors winning their doubles matches. Senior Dax Mcdonell and sophomore Robin Beard won at #1 doubles, and Seniors Joey Tortalano and Sean Pili won at #3 doubles.
Next, in singles, the Cardinals went toe-to-toe with T.C. Williams, bringing the score to 4-4. With one match left, #6 Junior Tommy Riechelt held the key to victory in his hands. Tommy seemed hesitant to turn it. Riechelt was up 7-4, but the match ended up going to 8-8, and had to be decided by a tie-breaker. The Ireton junior got an early lead and an ace in the tiebreaker, winning it 7-3. The other singles wins came from #4 Sophomore Matthew Pham, and #5 Sophomore Jack Patterson.
Bishop Ireton heads into the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship tournament play Friday at 10am. The tourney is again at the Olney Manor Tennis Club in Olney Maryland. There is no charge for admission to the event.
