Many Cardinal athletes are multi-sport competitors and many have drama, music, jobs, and loads of homework. Normally, a senior preparing for graduation has an extra full “plate” trying to negotiate their final year, including the dreaded anotated bibliography. So, when someone heads to graduation with a grade point average in the clouds, plays a varsity sport every season, THEN finds time for more outside of Bishop Ireton, you look twice.
Bishop Ireton’s Nick Tangora, a first baseman/pitcher on the Cardinals baseball team was also a two-time all star for the Ireton ice hockey team. He added membership on the U19 Ashburn travel ice hockey team to his resume and a national championship!
Nick went with the Ireton baseball team to Charleston on Easter Sunday to play in the High School tournament. He pitched Monday and then got on a plane and headed north to Hartford CT for the USA Hockey National Tournament to play for the Ashburn Xtreme. Tangora, the Bishop Ireton Hockey captain, participated first in getting to the Finals and then winning yesterday scoring a key goal in the 5-1 victory over the Florida Junior Panthers. Playing over five days against teams from Florida, California and Connecticut they went undefeated. This is the first time that the Club has ever gotten to the finals after 16 attempts and a First for a Northern Virginia team to ever win the U18AA USA Hockey National Championship.
Tangora was also recognized earlier in the school year by the Alexandria Sportsman’s Club as their athlete of the month for ice hockey.
