The BI JVMen’s lacrosse team played a mistake ridden game and fell to St John’s 8-4 in Washington DC on Tuesday.
Freshman Midfielder Tony Caffi won the first face off of the game and passed to Frosh Mid Cristian Vasquez near the top of the crease. Vasquez made a beautiful pass to Frosh Attackman Devon Reed, who scored @ 9: 38 of the 1st quarter. The Cadets controlled the next faceoff and scored 20 seconds later to tie the game. The Cardinals could not convert during a 2 minute, non-releasable Extra Man Opportunity early in the period. The Cardinals allowed two more goals during the quarter, one on a Man Down situation and one on a scooped ground ball on the crease. BI trailed 3-1 after one period.
Turnovers and an inability to scoop ground balls resulted in seven offensive possessions in the 2nd period without a shot. When BI did control the ball they hit multiple pipes. StJ scored on an EMO situation, extending the lead to 4-1. Reed dodged from X to score a 2nd goal @ 3:14 in the 2nd quarter. BI trailed 4-2 at the half.
BI opened the 2nd half with a 48 second EMO but could score. The Cadets added two more goals and extended the lead to 6-2. Turnovers continued to plague the Cardinals who had 3 more possessions without a shot. BI penalties provided StJ’s more scoring opportunities.
Reed added two more solo goals, but the Cadets answered twice. Frosh Goalie Ryan Verducci had multiple saves throughout the game to keep the score close. The BIJBMLax Cardinals host Good Counsel this Friday on Fannon Field.
