Ireton edged DeMatha in 2012 to open the season, they made it two in a row Saturday with a season-opening varsity win.
In the early morning on Saturday March 16th the Bishop Ireton Rowing team took on DeMatha and Seton in the Anacostia Invite, coming away victors in seven of eight events. Most notably, the Varsity mens and womens eights and fours came away victorious.
“I am very proud of how the entire program prepared for this early season regatta. We have overall season goals that are easy to become too focused on, while forgetting about the day to day necessities in training and the week to week opponents that you can’t look past,” head coach Eric Gehrke was quoted as saying, “but the athletes have kept themselves grounded and focused on the detailed process we have laid out.”
The Cardinals follow up this victory with a race against Bethesda Chevy-Chase this upcoming Saturday March 23rd in Georgetown on the Potomac River.
