The Bishop Ireton Cardinals (3-1, 0-0) refused to relinquish the lead after grabbing it early against the Stonewall Jackson Raiders, recording a 13-3 victory on Thursday at Frank Mann Field.
Nine runs in the first three innings allowed the Cards to put the game away early. An RBI triple by Andrew Selby, an RBI single by Ben Judd, and an RBI single by Nick Tangora in the first inning fueled the redbirds’ offense early.
Selby boosted his batting average thanks to a perfect 2-2 day at the plate to pace Bishop Ireton. Tangora recorded the win to even his record at 1-1. He allowed two runs over four innings, struck out four, walked two, and surrendered four hits.
The Cardinals open the 2013 WCAC campaign Saturday when they travel to Riverdale Park to play DeMatha at noon. JV will host the Stags at Frank Mann Field beginning at 12pm as well. There is no charge for admission to either game. You can follow the game live on the GameChanger application, download it to your Apple or Android device to get a pitch-by-pitch report of the action.
