Senior Ritchie Kamtchoum (22) had a career-high 7 points in Ireton's 78-68 setback at O'Connell

The visiting Cardinals were not satisfied to roll over on senior night at Bishop O’Connell, battling the favored Knights for four quarters, but falling 78-68 in the regular season finale for both teams Friday in Arlington.  The win improved O’Connell’s record to 22-6 overall, 15-3 in WCAC action while the Cardinals fell to 15-13, 6-12 in league play.

O’Connell opened quickly, taking a 20-12 first quarter advantage and pushing their advantage to 41-30 at halftime. The Cardinals would hang tough in the second half, closing the margin to 7 in the final period before the Knights closed the game with a 10-point margin.

Romelo Trimble plagued the Cardinals all night with a game-high 31 points and Leroy Butts added 15, Kamrin Moore 10.  Senior Junior Etou hauled down 14 rebounds for O’Connell and Trimble collected 10.  For the scrappy Cardinals, senior captain Louie Khouri and junior Patrick Moseh each scored 19 points, reliable Dan Noe added 15 of his own. Senior Ritchie Kamtchoum had a career-high 7 points for Ireton and Taylor McHugh added 7 as well.  Khouri remained hot from beyond the arc with 4 3-pointers, as did Trimble with 5.

Bishop Ireton heads to the postseason conference tourney as the number 8 seed, hosting Archbishop Carroll on Thursday at 7pm in Godley Gym. The winner advances to a 2:45pm Saturday date with top-seeded Gonzaga at Gallaudet University in Washington. WCAC semifinals are Sunday, championship game is slated for Monday at American University’s Bender Arena, as are the semi final matchups.  No passes are permitted for the first round game at Bishop Ireton, admission is $5 for all fans school-aged and above on Thursday.
