Senior volleyball player Emileigh Rettig of Alexandria, Virginia, was selected to the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association’s Division I first team, all state squad Saturday.
The outside hitter for Bishop Ireton ended the 2012 campaign 4th in the Washington Post in kills with 380 and 10th in the Post in digs with 413, second overall in the WCAC in that category. “It’s a great honor to be included on this all state team, but it is a team game and my teammates put me in the position to have this success.” said Rettig.
“It is a culmination of all the hard work and dedication she has invested the past four years. It all came together for her, and her family, this year. We always knew she had this type of potential. She will continue to get better when she gets to college.” said her coach, Kathy Gutmann.
Rettig was named to the first team, all WCAC volleyball squad earlier in the month and the Alexandria Sportsman’s Club selected her as the Club’s Athlete of the Month in September. Her volleyball plans after high school are still a work in progress.
