The Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) selected senior Emileigh Rettig a unanimous first team all-conference player it was announced this week in Washington. Senior Kristin Becht was a second team selection, while junior Ashley Cabrera was honored with a third team selection. Sarah Hersey and Stephanie Cabrera were also recognized as honorable mention awardees by the Conference.
Rettig, with 349 kills, is third on the Washington Post’s list of top performers behind Bishop O’Connell’s Claire Crutchfield and TC Williams’ Kate Whitmire. She is tops in the WCAC in digs and 7th in the Post with 387, Becht is 9th with 389, which gives the Cardinals a one, two finish in that WCAC category. All five players are in the top 50 in the Post ranking of numbers of digs for the season!
The Cardinals were upset in 5 games by St Johns in the quarterfinals of the WCAC playoffs, the 4th seeded Ireton had stopped #5 St Johns twice during the regular season, including a thrilling 3-2 win at Gallagher Gym in Washington. Bishop Ireton awaits the tourney pairings for the state tournament to begin next week. The VISAA state playoff pairings will be announced Sunday night.
