Senior BJ Townley is one of six athletes and one coach to be honored by the Alexandria Sportsman's Club on May 15th at their annual awards gala.

The Alexandria Sportsman’s Club announced their 2011-12 athletes-of-the-year Tuesday afternoon, including more than 20 athletes and a coach of the year.

VISAA’s football coach of the year, Tony Verducci, was tabbed for the City’s coach-of-the-year honors by the Club as were 7 varsity athletes.  Included in the list of athletes were Sacred Heart University-bound Moses Webb for football, senior cross country runner, Liam O’Conner, boys’ crew rower, Jacob Ramey, and girls soccer first team all-Met honoree, Katrina Guillou.

Also recognized by the Club was Ireton’ prep all-American wrestler, Andrew Lutterloh, a two-time Virginia state champion. The Cardinals’ University of South Florida-bound sprinter BJ Townley was named the City’s male track athlete of the year. Bishop Ireton’s lone junior was swimmer Kelly Palmer, a distance racer for Coach John Gullickson’s swim and dive team last season.

“I am very grateful to the Alexandria Sportsman’s Club for the honors they have bestowed on some great representatives of Bishop Ireton.  Each of these student-athletes are exceptional in a School of exceptional young people. They represent us well on and off the athletic fields, courts, pools, and they are very deserving of these awards.” commented athletic director, Bill Simmons.

Tickets for the affair are available from the Alexandria Sportsman’s Club or may be ordered through the Bishop Ireton athletic department. See the ASC website for tickets to the event or to join the City’s finest promoters of high school athletics since 1947, the Alexandria Sportsman’s Club, where the annual membership includes admission to the annual awards dinner.
