The Alexandria Sportsman’s Club announced their 2011-12 athletes-of-the-year Tuesday afternoon, including more than 20 athletes and a coach of the year.
VISAA’s football coach of the year, Tony Verducci, was tabbed for the City’s coach-of-the-year honors by the Club as were 7 varsity athletes. Included in the list of athletes were Sacred Heart University-bound Moses Webb for football, senior cross country runner, Liam O’Conner, boys’ crew rower, Jacob Ramey, and girls soccer first team all-Met honoree, Katrina Guillou.
Also recognized by the Club was Ireton’ prep all-American wrestler, Andrew Lutterloh, a two-time Virginia state champion. The Cardinals’ University of South Florida-bound sprinter BJ Townley was named the City’s male track athlete of the year. Bishop Ireton’s lone junior was swimmer Kelly Palmer, a distance racer for Coach John Gullickson’s swim and dive team last season.

Each of these student-athletes are exceptional in a School of exceptional young people. They represent us well on and off the athletic fields,courts, pools, and they are very deserving of these awards.” commented athletic director, Bill Simmons.
