Bishop Ireton traveled to Kensington this past Wednesday afternoon to take on the always tough Tartans from the Academy of the Holy Cross. The Cardinals started out very slowly in the first half of a rain-soaked game, scoring only three times to Holy Cross’ nine. The women came alive the second half of the game scoring seven times while the defense kept Holy Cross from scoring any more than three additional goals. Three proved be the difference, however, as the Cardinals couldn’t overcome the sluggish start and the contest ended 12-10.
Maddie Zeigler and Charlotte Sofield each came away with three goals on their cards, Kendall Cunningham had two, and Margaret Nealon and Kelly Mathews each scored once. Zeigler, Eva Irwin, Megan Fyffe, Mathews, and Sofield were each credited with an assist.
With only two weeks left of regular play, Ireton (8-5, 3-2) needs a pair of wins in their final 5 games to complete the season on a winning note facing off at home against St. Mary Ryken on the 24th, traveling to Bishop McNamara on the 27th, facing nationally ranked Milton (Georgia) on the 28th for the 8th annual Lax Day at Fannon Field, going to Elizabeth Seton on May 1st and the final game of the regular season at home versus Flint Hill on May 4th. The WCAC Tournament takes place May 8th, 10th, and 14th.
