- Senior Joe Darville had strong performances in the Cardinals road wins, 5-4 win over TC Williams and 14-10 win at John Paul the Great
Wednesday, April 18, Men’s Varsity Lacrosse travelled to Minnie Howard to take on TC Williams. BI was victorious with an exciting 5-4 win over the Titans.
Brandon Attiliis had 3 goals (his third “hat trick” of the season), William Chastain had 1 goal and 1 assist, while Senior Joe Darville shot a diving goal with a little over a minute remaining in the game to clinch the win. Darville was also credited with 3 assists. Groundballs were led by Tommy Kelly with 5; Max Becker, Peter Kaye, and Steven Gottlieb each had 2, while Patrick Rouin and Albert Schibani had 1. Tommy Putzu led forced turnovers with 2, while Jonathan Frischkorn, Peter Kaye, Max Becker, and Brandon Attiliis each had 1. Albert Schibani led the team with 3 steals, while Patrick Rouin had 1 and Max Becker had 2. Andrew Bachinsky, a Sophomore goalie, had 8 saves.
On Friday, April 20, Bishop Ireton Men’s Varsity Lacrosse had their second win in two days against John Paul the Great Catholic School winning 14-10. Darville and Chastain led the team with a combined total of 9 goals: Darville was credited with 5, and Chastain had 4. Rounding
out the scoring drive was Senior Brandon Attiliis with 2 goals, while seniors Perry Fabi, Nick Galdos, and Alex Carpenter each had a goal.
Assists were credited to Chastain (3), Darville (2), Galdos (1), Junior Albert Schibani (1), and Sophomore Steven Gottlieb (1). Many varsity players were successful with groundballs on this day: Junior Tommy Kelly (8), Schibani (4), Junior Peter Kaye (4), Sophomore Phillip Thomas (3), Darville (2), Galdos (2), Senior Alex Carpenter (2), and Senior Max Becker, Chastain, Senior Patrick Rouin, and Gottlieb each with one. Ryan Baier, a Junior goalie, had 7 saves.
The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Leonardtown to face St Mary’s Ryken in an evening affair, then return home to host first place Gonzaga on Wednesday, that one is a 4pm affair. JV games will follow both varsity contests.
