Playing short handed and utilizing a new goalie, the Bishop Ireton JV Men’s Lacrosse team played a complete game and earned a shutout against the George C. Marshall Statesmen on Fannon Field.  The Cardinals were able to control face offs and possess the ball.  Sophomore Attack Stephen Gerke opened the scoring at 3:30 in the 1st Quarter with an assist from Sophomore Middie Kevin Abbed.  Gerke scored again on an assist from Sophomore Middie Tom Owen.  The Cardinals led 2-0 after one quarter.

The Cardinals won multiple face offs in the 2nd Quarter.  Frosh Middies Mitch Wooten and Andrew Grabowski, and Sophomore Middie Dylan Espinosa provided the offense multiple scoring opportunities.  Sophomore Attack Nick Rinaldi fed Abbed to open the 2nd Quarter scoring during an Extra Man Opportunity (EMO).  Less than 30 seconds later, Sophomore Defensemen Martin Klunder fed Gerke to extend the lead to 4-0.  Wooten added a solo goal with a flag down.  Frosh Attack Jimmy Grant scored with an assist from Abbed. The Cardinals led 6-0 behind Frosh Goalie Dillon Louison.

Wooten provided the assist as Rinaldi scored from the crease early in the 3rd Quarter.  The EMO Offense added two goals in the quarter.  Rinaldi scored again on an assist from Grant.  Gerke added a solo goal resulting from a successful ride.  Frosh Middie Cory Conway played effectively, controlling the offense and hitting a pipe.  Wooten won a face off and added a solo goal to extend the lead to 10-0.  Rinaldi closed out the scoring with 16 seconds left on an assist from Middie Tom Owen.  The Cardinals led 11-0 after three quarters.

The defense, led by Sophomore Captain Andrew O’Hern, played aggressively throughout the game, but turned up the heat in the final quarter to preserve the shutout.  Sophomore Long Poles Jerome Ducurawat and Martin Klunder caused multiple turnovers and passed effectively.  Frosh LSM Ethan Carpenter also contributed multiple take aways.  Sophomore novice LSM Gio Hernandez scooped multiple groundballs and contributed several one-man clears.  Sophomore Attack Liam McCormack and Frosh Attack Nick Moats controlled the ball while not trying to increase their advantage.  Novice Middies Keenan Pallone, Carlos Chiriboga and Matt Bocchi controlled the ball effectively, assisted on rides and clears and kept the pressure on.
