Junior guard Camille Weber, above, led the Cardinals with 11 points in the weekend win over JPGHS.

Bishop Ireton (4-10, 0-5) ended a three-game skid Saturday with a convincing 64-25 thrashing of Pope John Paul the Great in girls varsity  basketball in Dumfries.

The visitors bolted out to a 30-15 halftime advantage and continued to work on the lead enroute to the win.   Junior Camille Weber led the redbirds in scoring with 11, Mara Celis had a strong performance with 10 points, 5  rebounds, and three assists for the afternoon. Helena Barber returned to action after recovering from an injury to score 8 points and grab 11 rebounds while Jasmine Conkright added seven points for Ireton.

The winless John Paul the Great (0-6) were led by 8 points from Donovan and Leary added 6, including the Wolves only three-point basket of the contest.

Next up for Ireton is Elizabeth Seton in a junior varsity, varsity doubleheader beginning at 5pm. Varsity tipoff is slated for 7pm.  Cardinals return to the “friendly confines” of Godley Gym on Friday when they host always tough Bishop McNamara. Freshmen will entertain Stone Ridge at 4pm before the Mustangs arrive for a junior varsity tilt at 5;45, varsity at 7:30pm.
