- 285 lbs Jimmy Keegan prepares to tie up with Matt Alexis of St Stephens. Keegan defeated Alexis by a fall in 1:14.
Junior Nick Womack and senior Andrew Lutterloh claimed championships and the Cardinals finished a strong second to John Marshall High School at the 2011 St Stephens/St Agnes School Holiday wrestling tournament.
For the burly senior, it was his third title in the young season, having captured the Northern Region championship at Fairfax High School, and the Bishop Ireton Holiday Classic prior to the Christmas holidays. Womack earned his second championship on the heels of his win in Godley Gym at the Cardinals’ tourney last month.
Darcy Gomez had a second place finish, as did Mike Rodriguez, and Ben Nagao. Junior Jimmy Keegan earned a third place finish as did senior Andrew Bladen, who wrestled up one weight class. Gomez had the most thrilling championship match, wrestling 2-2 at 113 pound weight class into the final seconds with Gilman of Baltimore’s Jack King. Both had an opportunity to throw the other for a winning takedown, but it was King who completed the throw for the win at the buzzer.
