On Tuesday, December 6th at the Chinquapin Recreation Center, the Cardinals competed in the City of Alexandria Championship meet with the swim and dive teams from crosstown rivals St. Stephens St. Agnes and TC Williams high schools. The meet was close, closer than in many years, but the Ireton team won the men’s, women’s and combined titles.
Leading the team with two first place finishes each were Juniors Kevin Grant (100 ****** and 100 free) and Kelly Palmer (200 free and 500 free). Other first place finishers were: Senior Captain Maddie Zeigler (100 back), Senior Captain Michael Ryan Clark (100 back), Senior Captain Andrew Crandall (50 free), Sophomore Alex Branham (girls diving) and Freshman Hayley Snell (50 free).
The team is proud to be the City Champions and to bring the City Cup trophy back to Ireton for the fifth straight year. The Ireton team is coached by John Gullickson (Head Coach), Anna Millotte (Assistant Swim Coach), and Anita O’Quinn (Dive Coach).
