- Senior Liam O’Connor flies by enroute to a course recordbreaking first place finish at Episcopal for the 2011 Alexandria City Championships
Bishop Ireton’s Liam O’Conner captured the Alexandria City individual varsity boys cross country championship in a course record 16:56 to lead the Cardinals to a second place boys finish, while the varsity girls edged St Stephens for third. TC Williams captured the City championship overall with wins on both varsity sides. Episcopal finished third on the boys side while St Stephens was fourth on both boys and girls varsity races.
The Ireton senior speedster toured the course on a perfect weather afternoon in Alexandria and seemed to get stronger as the race progressed pulling away from his nearest competitor as they entered the woods on the back third of the course. When they emerged, O’Connor had lengthened his lead and pulled away to a record breaking win.
Katie Necochia’s 5th place finish in the girls’ varsity race paced Ireton and “flock” of Cardinals, Aubrey Gartlan, Oliva Babiec, Natalie and Eva Irwin finished nearly together to edge St Stephens.
