Cardinal cross country heads to Frank Keyser Invitational in Boonsboro, Maryland, on Saturday

The Bishop Ireton cross country team took part in the Landon Invitational on September 24th which was held on the campus of the Bethesda school. Joining the Cardinals in the meet were rivals Paul VI, DeMatha, Holy Cross, St. John’s and St. Stephens/St. Agnes.

In the boys’ varsity race, senior captain Liam O’Connor led once again with his fourth place finish in a time of 17:29. The boys varsity squad finished fourth overall as a team, one point behind The Heights. They did, however, defeat conference foes Paul VI, DeMatha and local rival St. Stephen’s.

In the boys’ JV race, John Green led the Cardinals to a fifth place finish. Freshmen Luke Reddick and Connor Burke were the lone Cardinal entries in the boys freshman race and both managed to improve on their times from Oatlands just a week ago.

The varsity ladies raced without senior captain Aubrey Gartlan but were led once again by Junior Katie Nicochea’s fifth place finish as they placed third overall. Freshmen Natalie Irwin and Kaitlin Luzik provided depth as they finished second and fourth for the Cardinals, respectively. In placing third, the lady Cardinals defeated conference rivals Paul VI, St. John’s and Holy Cross.

In the girls JV race, Maria Manzek led the lady Cardinals with her 10th place finish.

The Ireton cross country squad travels to Boonsboro, Maryland this Saturday as they participate in the Frank Keyser Invitational.
