The Cardinals braved heavy rains and a two-and-half hour bus ride to St James, but the game itself was far more pleasant as Bishop Ireton cruised to a one-sided 11-0 win over the Saints on Friday.
Ten different Cards scored for the visitors, including one off a corner kick and two from direct kicks. Coach Gino Leon emptied the bench early and moved players to different positions in an effort to work on different situations and experiment with different combinations while trying to keep the score reasonable.
“We have Holy Cross on Tuesday in Kensington,” commented Leon, “that will be a difficult game and important benchmark on our progress this season.” The Tartans and Cardinals have a common opponent, PVI, so far this season. The Cardinals upended the Panthers 6-2 while Holy Cross blanked the Fairfax school 4-0 in their earlier meeting.
Gametime Tuesday is 4pm at the Academy of the Holy Cross, JV game will follow.
