Bishop Ireton’s new field hockey team quickly figured out one very important part of the game for any Cambridge Road team, how to beat Bishop O’Connell. The Cardinals hosted the Knights for the second this season due to facility work at the Arlington school, and the results were another 2-0 win for the redbirds.
Senior Maddy Zeigler tallied both goals for the Cardinals in this contest, the second whitewash of the Knights in as many tries. Coach Erin Simons singled out Tori Camardella, Allyn Melliza, Katie Kiesner, Kate Spata and Annie McHugh as playing exceptionally well for Ireton on the overcast Saturday morning in Alexandria. Once again, the Cardinals dominated the play against their blue and silver-clad rivals with 20 corners to the Knights’ 4 corners as well as 21 shots on goal. Both first year teams played a spirited game and enjoyed the competition, according to the Ireton head coach.
Bishop Ireton will return to action after a week of preparation to face powerhouse Holy Cross and newly formed programs at the School without Walls and Woodrow Wilson High School, both of the DCIAA.
