Talented newcomers join a strong returning cast for Coach Katie Sloper in 2011
The Cardinals, under Coach Katie Sloper, are back in full swing after last year’s successful season at 11-5, including Ireton stopping St Johns’ 58-game WCAC winning streak last fall, a five-year stretch for the Cadets of Washington, DC.
Coach Sloper anticipates another strong season with returning veterans as well as promising new talent who have joined the varsity squad. Top returners include WCAC finalist senior Christine Macey, WCAC champion junior Natalia Spinetto, as well as seniors Monica Zakaria and Mary Rose White, who are ready to play and defeat conference rivals St. John’s, Bishop O’Connell and PVI.
The Cardinals are set for their home opener against non-conference Cape Henry Collegiate School of Virginia Beach on Friday, Aug 26th at Carl Sandburg Middle School on Fort Hunt Road. The contest will begin at 4pm.
