The end of the WCAC regular season saw Bishop Ireton tied with Bishop McNamara for third, behind regular season winner, Bishop O’Connell and number two, Elizabeth Seton. With the season head-to-head split at 1-1, the tiebreaker rules take over determining the third seed.
The Mustangs earned a 1-3 regular season mark against the higher seeded Seton and O’Connell, while the Cardinals were 0-4. That difference sent Ireton to the 4th seed and a rematch of Friday’s opponent, fifth-seeded Paul VI at Luckett Field, tentatively set for Tuesday at 4pm, pending Alexandria City approval.
The winner of this 4 versus 5 match up will likely face top-seeded Bishop O’Connell as the Knights host the winner of the Ryken/St Johns play in game. In the other match ups, second seeded Seton will host 7th seed, Good Counsel, while the Mustangs at number 3 will entertain Holy Cross, the 6 seed. Semifinals are set for Thursday, championship will be at 1pm on Saturday, at the University of Maryland.
