Bishop Ireton recognized 8 senior lacrosse players April 21st when the Cardinals hosted Cape Henry Collegiate School from Virginia Beach on Fannon Field. It was the Dolphins, however, that celebrated a 17-6 win in Alexandria.
The home team got off on the right foot when sophomore Will Chastain buried a pass from classmate Albert Schibani to give Ireton a 1-0 advantage. Senior David Souliotis took a great pass from junior Patrick Rouin to tie the Dolphins at 2-2.
Cape Henry reeled off 9 of the next 10 goals however to blow the game open during the second and third periods. Joey Tarantino and Corey Marromattis did much of the damage for the Dolphins during the 9-1 run.
Ireton’s Alex Carpenter scored the lone goal during the visitor’s run, with an assist from Joe Darville. Junior Max Becker added a tally for the Cards 4th score, Will Chastain garnered his second of the contest and Perry Fabi rounded out the Cardinals offensive output on the day.
The squad will host St Mary’s Ryken, a WCAC powerhouse, on Wednesday, April 27th at 5pm to round out the home regular season schedule before a short trip to Episcopal to challenge the Maroon on Saturday at 1:30pm in the Hummel Bowl. The Cardinals will host Bishop McNamara on Fannon Field Monday, May 2d as the 2011 WCAC Boys’ Lacrosse Championship tournament gets underway. The winner of the Ireton-McNamara contest will move on to face top-seeded Gonzaga on the road Tuesday.
