Senior Whitney Cook has been selected as a Universal Cheerleading Association Cheerleader. This is one of the most prominent cheerleading Associations is the United States. High school cheerleaders from all over the US attend a UCA camp during the summer to build their skills.
Bishop Ireton has attended the UCA Summer Camp for 10 years. For the 1st time in Bishop Ireton history, we will have one of our alumni on the staff as an instructor. It takes more than just talent to become a member of the UCA Staff. Along with the right cheerleading skills, UCA looks for young men and women possessing character and enthusiasm, as well as teamwork and leadership skills. Of the more than 1,000 that apply, only the very best are chosen!
For the UCA east coast region, over the course of 4 tryouts held in New York, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania, UCA had about 400 applicants. From this pool they selected, 56 females and 6 males to comprise the 2011 UCA Cheerleading Class. This is a tremendous achievement for Whitney Cook and for the first time in history, Bishop Ireton High School will be listed with the UCA Staff information.
“This is another significant achievement for Whitney and for our cheerleading program.” said Bishop Ireton athletic director, Bill Simmons. “We are very proud of the tremendous year they have had and very proud of Whitney, she is deserving of this recognition.”
