The Cardinals opened up the contest with a 4-run first inning and never looked back in their 10-1 victory over St. Mary’s Ryken on Tuesday afternoon. With a combined 14 hits spread up and down the order and steady defense, the squad made the most of its long trip to Leondardtown.
Susie Rhodes continued to swing the hot bat going 3 for 3 on the day while junior Debbie Ward was pitched around after collecting her third hit of the afternoon. Junior Micki Crouch and sophmore Sarah Howell both contributed a pair of hits while freshman Megan Sullivan picked up her first hit of her BI career. The timely hitting allowed Ireton to stretch its lead to 8-0 in the third inning.
“It was great to jump out to an early lead. It allowed us to get everyone into the game, something I hope to be able to do whenever possible,” commented coach Terri Pearson.
The 2-1 Cardinals return to Luckett field for the home opener on Thursday against Elizabeth Seton and host Paul VI on Friday.
