It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…..the girls continued their strong play in the WCAC with a 2-0 win at McNamara while the boys’ woes offensively continued in a 3-0 setback on Fannon Field.
The good news was that Ireton’s girls continued its strong play with junior all conference player, Katrina Guillou orchestrating an offense that continues to find new contributors each game. Today it was Lyndsey Marti and Katrina Azar who netted goals for the Cardinals while the strong play on the defense and midfield kept the Mustangs off the board.
For Ireton’s boys, it was a 2-0 first half with few opportunities generated as Bishop McNamara smothered the Cardinals once they seized a lead. The clincher came with less than two minutes to play and the day was done for Ireton.
The road gets tougher for both squads as the boys (0-4) travel to DeMatha on Tuesday and the girls (3-1-1, 3-0), with a share of first place at stake, host a surprising Elizabeth Seton squad that ambushed Bishop O’Connell 1-0 in Arlington earlier this week.
The JV contests followed suit as McNamara edged the boys, 2-1, while Ireton’s girls drilled the Forestville hosts, 8-1.
