The Cardinal JV (1-0) spotted the Saints (0-1) a 4-0 lead after 3 1/2 innings, then went to work on the visitors, combining 7 hits and 8 St Stephens’ errors for a dozen runs enroute to a 12-4 pasting of the city rivals at Frank Mann Field. Cody Hagenston (1-0) got the complete game win pitching a solid game for the full seven frames.
Ireton began the comeback in the home half of the 4th, tallying a pair of runs, then adding three more in the 5th to take a lead they would not relinquish. The 6th proved to be a disaster for the Saints where some key hitting but also defensive lapses opened the floodgates as 7 Cardinals scored to break the game wide open.
The young Cards return to action at Frank Mann Field Saturday at 11am in the warm up act for the varsity home opener. The JV host Archbishop Carroll, the varsity entertain the Covenent School at 3pm.
