Cardinals win streak hits 11

The Bishop Ireton Ice Hockey team closed out January with a Friday night affair against Woodbridge/Osbourn Park at the Mount Vernon Rec. Center on January 29th.  Once again the Ireton crowd was out in full force and they were not disappointed.  Despite missing the services of leading scorer Reid Yager, the Cardinal offense was once again in high gear, pumping 44 shots on the W/OP goalie en route to a 6-0 victory.

Led by Tom Cyrnak with 2 goals and 1 assist, Ireton scored twice in each period while limiting the W/OP offense to just 6 shots on goal.  Nick Tangora also had a 3 point night (1 goal, 2 assists), while single goals were chipped in by Dan Tangora, Jimmy Smith and Dillon Roach.  Single assists were credited to Smith, Roach, Tom Casey, Ben Gerke, Dave Souliotis and William Chastain.  Robert Chastain was again solid in net, notching his 3rd shutout of the season.

The win boosts Ireton’s overall record to 11-0, and leaves the Cardinals tied atop the NVSHL standings with Robinson at 8-0.  Two league games remain on the schedule including this Friday night, February 5th, against the Loudoun Valley/Heritage squad at Ashburn Ice House.  The Cardinals then wrap up their regular season schedule with a highly anticipated game against an undefeated Stonebridge team who lurks right behind at 7-0.  The game will also take place at the Ashburn Ice House at 7:30 PM on Sunday, February 7th.
