Cardinals down Oakton 8-1

The Bishop Ireton Ice Hockey team welcomed the visiting Oakton Cougars to the friendly confines of the Mount Vernon Rec Center ice on Monday, January 25th.  The late afternoon tilt was well attended by the BI faithful, and they were not disappointed.  In a game dominated by special teams, the Ireton offense scored 3 shorthanded goals and chipped in a power play goal as well, en route to a 8-1 victory over the Cougars.

Leading the way on this day was Reid Yager, the Cardinal leading scorer so far this season, with 5 goals.  Allen Boelke, seeing his first action of the season, scored his first goal, and single tallies were credited to Tom Cyrnak and Nick Tangora.  Appearing on the score sheet with key assists were Jimmy Smith (2), and Cyrnak, William Chastain, Nick Tangora, Dan Tangora and Dave Souliotis with one apiece.

The Cardinals high-powered offense outshot the Cougars, 47-14, with Robert Chastain turning aside 13 of the 14 shots he faced, improving his record to 7-0 in NVSHL league play, and 10-0 overall.  The next game on the schedule is at home on Friday, January 29th, at 7:00 pm against a combined Woodbridge/Osbourn Park squad.  Come on out to the Mount Vernon Rec Center and watch as the Cardinals attempt to stay undefeated!
