Indoor track is alive and well at BI. This past weekend the BI indoor track team competed in Episcopal’s Maroon and Black relays. This is a first for the Cardinals who now compete under the club banner. The team is coached by Tracey Golden who volunteers his time to work with the athletes.
Indoor track is the cornerstone between not only cross country and track, but an important off season activity for football, soccer, and lacrosse to name but a few of the sports benefiting from the winter workouts. Many track athletes use this time to develop their racing form and sprint legs. Meets also feature long jumps, high jumps, and shotput. Approximately 20 runners are competing under the BI banner this winter.
Anchored by state champion Shannon Gordon, the girls finished second overall in a meet that included St Stephens, Episcopal, Gonzaga, and Georgetown Day. Shannon was first in the long jump, and second in the 55 meter hurdles. Katarina Axenfeld was fourth in the long jump. Hannah Thomas was first in the High Jump.
The boys team includes a number of our championship cross country runners who are on pace to send a first time 4 x800 team to the Penn Relays. The 4 x 800 has a very competitive qualifying team of Stiers, Kicinski, Costigan, and Anderson. Sam Ferrera and BJ Townley also competed this past Saturday at Episcopal.
