Bishop Ireton(12-10, 3-9) grabbed a 14-11 early lead but couldn’t hold it enroute to a 64-52 setback to Bishop O’Connell Friday in Arlington.
The Cardinals broke out of a 9-9 tie to lead 14-11 after a period of play. The Knights countered in the second period with a 19-11 rally to take a 30-25 advantage at halftime.
The third period was a back-and-forth affair, Ireton closed to within a point, but h the home team finished the period by adding a point to their 5-point cushion as the game moved to the final chapter.
The ball wouldn’t fall for the visitors in the last act and the Knights raced away to the 11-point margin of victory. 8 Cardinals got in the score book, three in double figures. CeCe Leone and Alex Stipano each chipped in 14, junior Shannon Corridon, started her first game and responded with 11. Aiden Phillips had 6 for the Cardinals, Michelle Montgomery 3, Danielle Hatchett 2. Four Knights were in double figures, led by Maddie Cherry’s 20, Jasmine Taylor 15, Janiya Clemmons 12, and Coral Gillette with 10.
The road ahead sees the Cardinals visiting top ranked Paul VI on Tuesday and hosting the Roadrunners of Elizabeth Seton on Friday.
