Bishop Ireton had a busy weekend of hoops, falling to WCAC powerhouse, St Johns 63-46 then overwhelming Trinity Christian School 85-20 the next day.
The Cardinals are a much improved basketball team, but there are still nights where talented WCAC squads make it tough on the redbirds. Friday was one of those evenings, as the Cadets bolted out to a 20-8 lead after a quarter of play and didn’t look back, enroute to the win.
Michelle Montgomery battled inside for Bishop Ireton and recorded a team-high 15 points while CeCe Leone added 14 including another perfect 4-4 night from the free throw line. Stipano added seven, Aiden Phillips and Paige Russell had 4, Shannon Corridon and Danielle Hatchett chipped in two each. Amira Collins had a game-high 18 points, two other Cadets scored in double figures.
Saturday the tables turned and this time, it was the visiting Trinity Christian School that had their hands full with the Cardinals. As the clubs headed to intermission, Ireton was cruising at 47-14 and Coach Jason Harris substituted liberally and often. 12 Cardinals scored in the contest, Alex Stipano’s 15 lead Ireton, Leone and Hatchett scored 10, juniors Shannon Corridon and Maggie Lohrer had 9, Paige Russell added 8, Montgomery 7. It was among the most lopsided wins in school history and gave Ireton its 9th win against 6 losses. A pair of WCAC games loom for Ireton before a non conference tilt in the Public-Private tournament at Mcdonough School on Saturday, January 10th.
