Alex Stipano rang up her second 30-point performance in five games and Ireton ran their win streak to five with a 70-65 WCAC win over Archbishop Carroll Tuesday in Alexandria.
“We made big plays down the stretch and our girls never give up. This was a great win for our program.” said head coach, Jason Harris who is in his first season with the Cardinals.
Bishop Ireton started slowly. Carroll grabbed a 4-2 lead, but then Stipano found the range for the first of seven three’s on the evening and suddenly the Cardinals were out to a 20-12 margin after one period, Stipano contributing 14 points in the opening frame.
Carroll countered in the second period, holding the home team to 9 points and a three at the buzzer sent the visitors to the locker room leading 32-29.
A Paige Russell three at the 4:29 mark in the third put the redbirds back in front, 35-34 and started a torrent of shots from beyond the arc as the ball clubs quickly raced to a 42-42 stalemate with 1:52 left in the third and the sharpshooting Stipano with 27 points as the quarter drew to a close. Shannon Corridon put back her own miss at the buzzer and the teams headed into the final quarter with Bishop Ireton nursing a 50-46 advantage.
