The Cardinals fell to Carroll on Wednesday, 47-41, with Jeremiah Brooks scoring a team-high 10 points. On a three-pointer from Nicolas, Carroll wrestled the lead from the visiting Ireton and clinched their win in the fourth quarter.
At the half, the Cardinals led 20-17 on the strength of a 14-4 run. But this wasn’t enough to overcome Carroll’s 30 points in the final two quarters of the game. The Lions closed the deal with a 13-4 margin in the game’s final quarter.
Brooks was the front runner for the Cardinals’s offense with 10 points, including four during the third period. He also contributed five rebounds. Also contributing for the Cardinals were Tom Dosunmu (8 points, 4 rebounds), Darius Hines (7 points, 1 rebound), Quintin Gilchrest (6 points, 8 rebounds), Nick Schmelzer (3 points), Kyle Bethea (3 points, 1 rebound), Gabriel Harold (2 points, 1 rebound) and Michael Everett (2 points, 1 rebound). The Cardinals (1-3, 0-2) finished the game with 26 rebounds (eight offensive/18 defensive).
The road weary redbirds host their home opener as they open a two-game homestand with Bishop McNamara Friday at 7;30, then host Trinity Christian School at 3pm on Saturday.
