Bishop Ireton’s season opening road trip continued with an appearance at neighboring Episcopal, but the reception was anything but cordial on a dreary Saturday afternoon in Alexandria. Despite Jeremiah Brooks putting 13 points on the board, the Cardinals (1-2, 0-1) lost to Episcopal 67-53.
Though the Cardinals finished strong, adding 18 points in the final quarter, it wasn’t enough to turn things around. Brooks led the charge for the Cardinals’s offense, scoring 13 points, with five points during the second period. He also contributed seven rebounds and two steals.
Also contributing for the Cardinals were Quintin Gilchrest (8 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals), Michael Everett (7 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal), Darius Hines (7 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal), Jeremy Guillaud (6 points, 4 rebounds), Tom Dosunmu (4 points, 2 rebounds), Nick Schmelzer (3 points, 1 rebound), Kyle Bethea (3 points, 1 rebound) and Chase Hill (2 points, 1 rebound). The Cardinals finished the game with 39 rebounds (18 offensive/21 defensive) and six steals.
Bishop Ireton returns to WCAC play Tuesday when they travel to Archbishop Carroll to face the Lions. Tipoff is set for 7pm in Washington.
