Juniors Maggie Lohrer and Thomas Ward led the Cardinals on a beautiful day as the cross country team competed with their conference rivals on the famously tough course of Lake Fairfax in Reston.
The ladies had their highest finish in over ten years as they edged Holy Cross for third place by just four points. The boys squad fought hard against the likes of Good Counsel and Gonzaga as they finished a respectable eighth place overall. Bishop O’Connell won the girls championship for the 8th consecutive year with Good Counsel close behind. In the boys’ meet, the Falcons edged Gonzaga for the team title.
Junior Thomas Ward led the boys with this 28th place finish overall while Junior Aaron Ault was close behind on 38th. Juniors Steve Sisel, David Fernandez, Chris App, Freshman Will Olson, and Senior Jimmy Grant rounded out Ireton’s top seven for the race.
In the boys JV race, Juniors Jake Ferrara and Matthew Gottlieb led the way with Senior John Holbrook close behind. In the boys Freshman race, Chris Gaietto, John Ferguson, and Jack Sabatini ran strong for the Cardinals.
Maggie Lohrer hoped to improve on her 9th place finish last season and did just that as she finished a strong 4th overall for the Cardinal and Gold. Junior Isabelle Wilcox was 10th overall as Freshman Lizzie Lohrer and Senior Natalie Irwin took 21st and 23rd overall, respectively. Rounding out the Ireton seven were Senior Kaitlin Luzik, Junior Maggie Mildrew, and Sophomore Molly Nealon.
In the girls JV race, Sophomore Megan Cunningham and Freshman Vivian Barker battled for 16th and 19th overall, respectively. Sophomore Ann Johnson, Junior Brigid Nealon, and Freshman Isabella Diaz rounded out Ireton’s scoring five.
The Ireton harriers have a two-week break until their next and last meet of the season which is the VISAA Championship down at Woodberry Forest on November 7th.
