Bishop Ireton’s volleyball team raced past a taller St John’s in three straight, 25-9, 25-8, 25-20.
For the Cardinals, it was a case of the team playing their style of play and making the opponent play that game as well.
“We played a balanced attacking style of game,” commented the Cardinals’ head coach, Kathy Gutmann. “Frankie Littleton stepped in at libero and played very well, as did Olivia Georgi in the middle.”
The Ireton defense stymied the Cadets attack, but the visiting Washington DC school suffered a number of unforced errors. “We took them out of their game, the girls did a good job in that regard. But we have to go back up their place and they will no doubt remember this match.” suggested the Ireton coach.
The Cardinals hit the road for a JV, varsity doubleheader at Bishop McNamara, gametime 4pm for the junior varsity tilt, the varsity matchup is tentatively set for 5:30.
