Cardinals’ Soccer races past Visitation, 5-0

Grace Hamilton heads the ball for the Cardinals. Her goal against Georgetown Visitation off a corner kick was one of 5 Ireton goals on the day.

Paced by a pair of goals from junior Lilly Weber, Bishop Ireton cruised to a 5-0 soccer over Georgetown Visitation Friday afternoon on Fannon Field.

The talented attacker used her expert ball handling and sharp shooting skill to score in the game’s 13th and 31st minutes to give the Cardinals a 2-0 advantage they carried into the intermission.

With Amy Krotine directing the defense and turning away all the Cub shots, Grace Hamilton scored a spectacular header off  a corner kick in the 51st minute and freshman Grace Sklopan essentially ended the visitors’ chances when she scored on a penalty kick a moment later to make it 4-0.

Freshman Frances Hamilton got into the act in the game’s 67th minute when she hammered a shot on goal, deflecting off a defender and into the net for Ireton’s 5th and final goal of the game.

Bishop Ireton’s non conference match with Flint Hill on Tuesday was cancelled when Flint Hill discovered they were also slated by the ISL for a conference match that they could not reschedule.

The break provides the Cardinals with preparation time and a chance to focus on the Friday match up with the country’s number 6 ranked, undefeated McDonogh School of Owings Mills, Maryland under the lights.   Kickoff is 7pm at Witter Drive Field #2, a Cardinal Crazy “white out” with Rocklands BBQ concessions scheduled to be on hand.
